Trestle Hire
Why Use Trestle Hire?
For low-level access requirements in building, construction and maintenance, trestle hire is the ideal solution.
With trestle hire you can assemble the perfect arrangement for sturdy and comfortable working from lightweight components featuring safety and convenience features such as captive locking pins.
What Exactly Is A Trestle?
A trestle is a sturdy support constructed from two A-framed joined together by horizontal components. Materials used in construction are usually wood, steel or aluminium. Wood is quite a heavy material, so for tasks where frequent repositioning is required it may be advisable to select a lightweight aluminium alternative. For heavy duty activities the first choice is likely to be a steel product.
Flat horizontal work platforms are created by placing scaffold boards or purpose-made staging across the top members of the trestles. In this way it is possible to create large, stable work areas which are perfect for interior or exterior plastering, painting and maintenance activities. Scaffold boards and staging matched to the trestles is of course available along with the trestles when arranging trestle hire. Using height-adjustable trestles, long runs of boards can be readily created for uninterrupted working.
Please note that trestle access products are intended for use as temporary structures and are not suitable for long term access.
Will I Be Able To Reach?
If your requirements are for low-level access then you will be able to reach your work area comfortably using trestles. The range of products available for trestle hire provides maximum platform heights from under 1m up to 4m. When considering trestle hire, remember that the operator will have from 1m to 2m reach available above the platform. Taller trestles feature multiple horizontal rungs so that boards or staging can be placed at the best height and moved up or down as the work progresses.
What About Safety?
Trestles are for relatively low-level working but avoiding accidents and injuries remains important. Local regulations vary, but operators must comply fully with them. Guard rail systems are available for hire along with trestle products in order to meet appropriate legislation and to enhance worker safety and comfort. The use of toe boards is advised in order to help prevent tools and materials from falling from the platform edge.
All good hire outlets will provide safety guidance and clear instructions for product assembly and use. Some of the advice may seem obvious, for example users are instructed that they should never lean too far to one side to reach. Others advice may not have occurred to the novice user, for example the advice to stand the trestles on boards when working on soft ground. Users are also advised not to use other objects such as boxes on the platform in order to gain extra height.
Local regulations may place limitations on factors such as minimum board width, working height, handrail use and so on. The hire outlet should be in a good position to answer safety-related questions. Please consult your local safety regulator for further guidance if required. |
